This is the essential follow-up course to California Color Crush I.

It's one thing to know about color.  It's an entirely different thing to translate your knowledge onto the canvas.

During California Color Crush II: Implementing Color, learn to translate your color knowledge into practical applications in your own work. Explore color relativity, harmony, dissonance, prismatic hues, color psychology and more in this intensive color application workshop.

This workshop is designed to push your understanding of color further.

Through carefully designed demonstrations, time-tested exercises and assignments, you can synthesize your color understanding (from Color Crush I) into your painting practice. I will guide you to push your understanding and application of color further than you thought was possible.

Gain a Deeper Understanding of

  • Color relativity and proportion

  • How to use color harmony

  • How to use dissonance in your work

  • How to use muted hues and chromatic grays

  • How to make your more prismatic hues stand out

  • Psychological effect of color relationships

  • Color and the illusion of transparency and depth

  • How to integrate specific color strategies into your artistic practice

  • How to translate theoretical color knowledge into intuitive painting

Expect Your Painting Practice to Blossom

Since my first color theory course as an undergraduate art student over 30 years ago, I've had a deep appreciation for the difference color theory can make with your painting practice. I find that artists often hit a roadblock with their work, get stymied by color and just don’t know how to resolve it. It's exciting to see the lightbulb go off as artists do the color mixing exercises and realize all the subtleties they can achieve with various palettes. I love watching them dive in and create beyond what they thought was possible, to be surprised by how much further they can push their work. Once they understand how to achieve harmonious color palettes and combine color to achieve the look they are after, their painting practice just blossoms.

Join me at Asilomar Retreat Center - Monterey Peninsula’s “Refuge-by-the-sea” - in Pacific Grove, California and indulge your senses during this follow-up workshop. Together we'll dive deep into color application!
